TRIMAS CORP (TEKONSHA) 188
Proportional trailer braking, in either forward or reverse.
Prodigy brakes your trailer at the same rate of deceleration as your tow vehicle. It's the only inertia-activated brake control offering proportional braking in reverse. A self-adjusting sensor similar to technology used in guided missiles allows easy, flexible installation - from nearly horizontal to nearly vertical.

  • Automatically adjusts to the position of the tow vehicle on any terrain as you drive, with no manual leveling.
  • Exclusive boost feature lets you apply more initial trailer braking power when towing heavier trailers.
  • Continuously checks for proper connection and operation.
  • Digital display shows voltage to trailer brakes during braking.
  • Power-saving mode reduces battery drain when not in use.
  • Mounts in unique pocket bracket at almost any angle.
  • Includes pre-assembled wiring harness and storage pouch.
  • Works with 1- to 4-axle trailer brake systems.
  • Meets NHTSA regulations for tow vehicle/trailer light activation.

  • Product Protection Plan covers 100% parts and labor for up to two years following the expiration of your manufacturer's warranty. You won't have any out-of-pocket expenses. Note: Patio Awning, Window Awning, Slide Topper weather coverage begins at the date of purchase. Click here for more details

Prodigy great but beware the "free installation"

The Prodigy itself seems to be a great help in slowing my car carrier behind our class A diesel. The proportional braking is much better than delays and other solutions. If you have a truck or RV with an OEM controller adapter pre-wired by the manufacturer terriffic. The free installation notwithstanding the installation only involves plugging in a wire harness and screwing the bracket to the dash somewhere where the unit is facing exactly forward and at a reasonable vertical angle (see the instructions). If you are not at all mechanically inclined Camping World will do it in about 20-30 minutes. However, if you have them do it watch them closely. My store (Tampa) put it in at an angle of about 30 degres from straight ahead and the manufacturer told me to move so it is really straight or it might not work right (which you probably won't know until you lose your tow). It was also placed such that I could not see the display without hunching over the steering wheel. I have since repositioned it myself so it is straight and visible. Also, the CW "free installation" is only if you are pre-wired. If not, look for two to four hours labor and parts (wire, connectors, etc.) before than can install it "free". If you already have a 7-way plug at the rear you are part way there but they still need to wire the unit in under the dash. Make sure they are clear about what they are going to do before you sign the work order.

I have used cheaper brake controllers & after owning the Prodigy I will never go back. This is the best investment of any camping gear I have ever bought. It is so smooth when you come to a stop plus you don't have to cut it off when backing up. I pull a 30' TT with an Avalanche & it works perfectly. After the initial adjustment, which is very easy, I haven't had to touch it since. On the old one I cut it way down around town & cut it up at road speed. You will not regret the little bit of extra cost, it is worth every penny.

I was pulling our 33 ft. fifth wheel with an Old School red light - green light manual control which I never was sure was operating at full function. Purchased the Prodigy controller. Installed it in about 35 minutes and was very pleased with the results. Great product !

I have pulled many trailers with the cheaper brake controllers. When I bought my new Ford F-150, I decided to install the Prodigy. It rates six stars in my book.... ******. If you are tired of Herky-Jerky braking, then I can highly recommend the Prodigy.
